I pay for all my games for that reason, supporting the industry. Im saying if software had no security at all, it would be more or less as easy to download it for free as it would be paying for it. In my opinion security will never be absolute, if someone can make it, someone can break it and i think most people who buy the software do so, because they can't be bothered with the hassle trying to get it to work illegally
Usually with in the day, if not with in the hour, of release, sometimes before the release, a game has hacks, cheats and a work around for security. Devs may as well stick with just a CD key and that is it. There is a way to manipulate any data, it is never ever 100% safe, and those with the right know how can get around it, millions are spent developing software that can "prevent" piracy, yet all of that money and work is wasted just a few weeks/months after the new features is released.
If there was a key for online play and no other security, with all of the money spent on the game itself, games would be infinitely better, and the amount of piracy would not change at all.
I think Sony did outstanding to be honest to last this long without a solid way to run custom software on their systems, but there were always ways and ways around it. The same security is on the PSP, yet for years there has been custom firmware and homebrew on their system, even without the code. Even without the full fix, there were ways to get custom software on there without any problems
=EDIT=
@ Shlouski, I get that too, I even had a conversation with our window cleaner about getting pirated games working on the Xbox, everyone knows it is there, even if they don't know how to use it, and everyone wants something for free, right? They don't fully understand what it is or the impact it has I don't think
