it is within your legal rights tech savy to make a backup copy of any dvd that you have bought and own, send me a pm and i will let you know which software to use.

Surely it wouldnt if you did it on a computer and then transfered it to the ps3, if you did it on the ps3 itself I imagine it would but the only way that could have been done was with the option to install linux on the ps3, and that option has now been disabled by a update from sony.

To do so would require bypassing DRM, which is both against Sony's TOS, and also against forum rules.

Tech Savvy, all the time there is DRM to bypass, unfortunately you can't use the media, unless it is the original copy, even though you have payed for the right to use that media and enjoy the content.

What i'm saying is if it was done and then put on the ps3, it would just count as a video file and shouldnt break the eula since the ps3 has support for storing and playing video files, in terms of actually backing up a DVD yeah that is a bit of a grey area legally and, as aastii said, against forum rules to discuss
 
i dont know about usa or other countries, but here in the uk i watched a news report that was about this kind of thing and basically the government was going to force them to open up media rights due to the amount of portable devices now in use, it costs alot of money for this tech, ipods, phones, ps3 etc, if you buy it you own it your not hiring it or renting it, when you pay your money it belongs solely to you, why should you not be allowed to put a copy of a dvd film on another device, you own the dvd and device so you can do what you want with it
