PSU recommendations

I need a new PSU, that would be able to power the system in my sig, except with an 8800gts 640 instead of my current card. I would like it to have dual 12v rails and modular cabling if possible. I'll be getting an 8800gts within the next month and a half or so, which means I need a new PSU. Thanks!

I would recommend the Corsair hx520w, 620w for non SLI. Or the Quattro for SLI. The OCZ GameXStream i have is a realy good unit but it may would be able to do SLI, is puts out 50a and the Corsair 620w puts out 50a i think, but SLI'ed 8800's ask about 52a so if you wanted to go SLI to be safe get the Quattro otherwise the others are good.

The Corsair HX520W is a good choice. It's actually a single rail unit, though (which I certainly don't consider to be a disadvantage). Why are you looking for dual rails? Higher end PSUs will mostly either have one rail or more than two.

Do you have a budget in mind?

If SLI is totally out of the question the corsair 520 is a good choice. I have one and it works great on my system never even pushes itself. It should power yours fine.

I would prefer that it cost me less than $120US. SLI is out of the question because my mobo only has 1 PCIe 16 slot, and I never really have planned on going to 2 video cards. I would prefer dual rails just so that I have 1 individual rail for the video card. I suppose it doesnt really matter to me, but I would just like it that way. I was looking at these. They have them at my local Best Buy and I could get them for cheaper than on newegg.

The first PSU i linked to I would want more, however, I am worried about it because of those known problems with Antec PSUs and Asus Mobos.
Any thoughts?

You'll never get one rail for the video card - in a complaint design it's one rail for the CPU and one for everything else.

Those problems were corrected quite some time ago. The Corsair is a better PSU than the NeoHE, but the NeoHE is no slouch either. The Trio is very attractive with that MIR.

lololol. I meant CPU, not video card. Yeah, that Trio looks pretty good especially with the MIR. I might have to jump on it. Or I may wait until my paycheck next week and get the Corsair. Not too sure.

Those Antec PSU and Asus Mobo issues were fixed though? I just read about them a few weeks ago. haha. I guess I'm not up to date on everything.

The corsair 520w should be far more than enough blakel and it should let you happy since it's very silent and powerful as well

Would it be worth the few extra dollars to get the 620HX over the 520HX? Is it worth the few extra dollars for an extra 100w?

For the same price as the corsair 520, I would recommend this, better IMO. Many great features and an excellent power supply, I have the 500 watt and it has never even given me a hiccup of trouble..

The corsair beat the crap out of it, since it has modular, is rated at 50c under the maximum stress.

@Blakel:

It would and at the same time it wouldn't, you could buy it and still be happy but by around that price you could get a antec 850w just for 10$ more

Yeah I have the Corsair 520W, quiet, VERY LOW HEAT... The Corsairs spec's beat out the Antec's, maybe not in wattage, I am pretty sure that this Corsair run true to spec. Antec is trying to 'put on a show', like the rest of the PSU makers, by upping their advertised wattage.

From jonnyguru when comparing the two units:

Seriously?

ok.

The Antec is based on a cheaper Seasonic platform. (Only has a single layer PCB, for example.)

The Corsair uses better grade components (Nippon Checmicon capacitors as opposed to OST, for example.)

The Corsair has a quieter 120MM fan as opposed to the Antec's 80MM.

The Corsair has more modular connections (six as opposed to five.)

Oh gee... let's see what else can I think of....

Also take a look at his reviews of the Corsair HX series and NeoHE series: http://www.jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=28

There's a reason that newegg wants $15 more for the Corsair than the Antec. It is the better unit. You can get the NeoHE 550W for a fair bit cheaper, though, if you don't mind looking outside newegg:

Appears to be $87.34 - $25 MIR = $62.34 = Very Good Value (provided you don't mind waiting for the rebate).
