Red lights of Death on my 360

So after going going home for the weekend from college I come back missing halo 3 and I turn on my xbox with a friend and I get the dreaded 3 lights of death, which mean hardware failure, I called xbox and I should be getting a box to give it to them in 10 days, my question is does anyone know if they give you a new xbox right away in that box and you return your in the same one, or do you have to give it to them and wait for another?? (would it be the same one, a new one or a refurbished one?)

Had this problem, they took ages! like 6 weeks ages and then when I got it back it was a different unit.

But hats off to them got it all done for nothing and got a 3 month gold card with it too. This one has been great and works fine "for now"...
 
i got mine back in less than a week, about 9 days overall turnaround time. I got a refurbished unit, but havent had any problems with it whatsoever, its been about 8 months. I was pleasantly surprised by the experience, and im glad i got a decent box now
 
Think it was just bad luck and they were busy (around the time when MS extended there warranty to three years)! my mates one took about two weeks but he got his original console back and no free gold live cards.
