RIFT (Anyone play?)

Does anyone here play RIFT? I am looking for reviews... the gameplay videos look promising but want to know more about it before I spend the $50 :D

For the most part, how is the community? A lot of players yet or no?

WoW was dead when rift came out. In my 500+ member guild, there was only like 5 people on for 3 days. So...I don't think the community is lacking. My friend really enjoys it, and I plan to pick it up soon.

Yeah, I am really debating going out and getting it. I am just concerned about the community considering it doesn't have the big player base built on it like WoW did, with Warcraft before it. Marketing wise, the only place I have heard of RIFT was on the IGN forums...

but I suppose regardless it would have a decent community at least. I heard it is a very well built game too. Not to many flaws from my understanding, bug wise.

Well I purchased it today.

I'll post up my server/etc when I get in for anyone interested.

Installing it as I type this.

My take on the game after the first two days: Lv10 Mage

The game is a slightly darker, let Disney version of WoW. Other than that, it is nearly the same, but a load easier? How you may ask, considering WoW is easy as hell.

Well first, each quest you get has on the map, a blinker on where exactly you need to go for anything. If its a "Kill this mob" it gives you the ranges they are found in, and if its a "search for and find this" it is still pointed out on the map. Makes questing WAY to easy. Not only does this make the quests too easy, when you get the "Collect so many of this item." Normally in WoW or any other game really, you kept killing that monster until you go the items. Sometimes it could be a rare drop and took a bit of time. In RIFT, for each quest I have done, EVERY kill gave me the quest item. Really dumbed this game down. haha

As well, it seems to me the mobs are WAY to easy, no matter what it is... and almost every class gets a little pet to help them fight on their way.

The RIFT's are pretty neat though, as they come out and the players around fight mobs to get items.

The community so far is annoying, and kind of childish so far. That is just in the general chat. I haven't really came across people though to actually talk to. Not really a plus in my books.

End review so far: WoW exactly with RIFT's. So far at least. Hope it changes and some challenge arises.

WoW tracks quests as well, it tells you where it is on the map to find mobs/items and to hand in. You can get addons to make it better (see carbonite and quest helper).

At the start of the game, mobs are always easy, just seems it is a little longer in Rift that they are easy. See the starting areas of WoW when a clothy can tank several mobs at once no problem.

I can't really comment on the community, I haven't played long enough to find out about them. I've not got the game yet but am seriously considering getting it, from beta and playing on other's accounts, it seems like a hell of a game

Did WoW track quests to the very pinpoint from the getgo? I remember hunting for items haha. I do remember the add-on though for quests.

and I am sure the community has its great moments though. Right now it is a ton of trolls with their WoW faces on, running around trying to piss everyone off. Pretty much the only convo in general chat atm. haha

So far it's not a bad game. Just really waiting for that first challenge.

RIFT's are fun as hell though.

No, but it didn't do a lot of stuff it does now - initially there wasn't the dungeon search thing (can't remember the exact name) like it is now, there weren't flying mounts, there weren't a lot of things, games develop and game devs see the response from the community and build upon the positives, which from my time playing WoW, the quest tracker was a huge positive, everyone I used to play with had a quest tracker of some sort, and although the WoW one isn't as refined as the addons, it still had, and still does have, it

I'm currently listening to Stayven (former Ensidia raider and other very, very high end raiding guild in WoW) on Nordrassil Radio on his new Rift program. He is going pretty damn in depth. If you want to listen it is here:

Well what did you really expect? Same people who made WoW made RIFT so its not surprising they are so similar. Personally I wouldn't waste my time on RIFT if you play WoW now. Its the same thing in the end so why waste all your time to date to restart. That is the general thought that went through my mind as I played the BETA. Was too boring with the "quest here" and stuff. I like more challenging games like Never Winter or Morrowind. Something that requires some thought process to proceed.

I never heard of Ensidia before....what was their global rank 3 years ago (if you know) I know they are currently ranked 3rd? Transcended = ranked 3rd in the world when WoW was actually a challenge. We laid it down :P Shame they seemed to have been absorbed by another guild.

How is it the same people that made WoW

And Ensidia have pretty much always been UK 1st, worldwide the highest they got, I think, was 2nd, with only Paragon ahead of them. Right now they are sat in 3rd, but Paragon speak Finnish, Method (world and EU 2nd) speak German in their raids unless I am mistaken, which makes them the world's number 1 English speaking guild, and certainly the world's number 1 English speaking horde guild

Here the game starts to pick up! I really started enjoying it around lv13.

I play on Deepstrike PVP for anyone interested!

Character name: Seze
Server: Deepstrike (PVP)
Side: Defiant

Lv20. Mage Pyro/Ele/Archon atm.

If anyone is wanting to play, get a hold of me. :D

I liked the old WoW, before it lead you by the hand through everything, the challenge has gone from it now. Developers like the people who made Rift have just looked at WoW and said "what has gone well for them" and included all the good stuff (plus extras) and left out all of the stuff that didn't work so well.

Since when did the same people make both games? Blizzard as a whole certainly didn't, maybe a few of the dev's on the Rift team were originally at Blizz, but that wouldn't make a huge difference.

I am still debating whether or not to get Rift, I played the Beta a bit (when I got the chance and it was running) and I thought it was a real contender to beat WoW, but I have just got back into WoW, spent £25 on Cata, £15 to transfer a char and £18 on 2 months sub, so I really can't justify getting Rift as well atm :(...plus I have exams next month :(

It is extremely fun. I wish the Mage class played more like it did in WoW though.
Or maybe I am just not playing around with it as much?

In WoW, it was the best class to play, with all the neat skills like blink(the teleport like 20 feet infront of you) one and then the feather one. Super fun to just jump off high stuff and glide for million of feet. haha. So many different ways to go about a battle and escaping enemies. Blink away, or jump from a high place, or freeze and old school just run.

Maybe I should just play with it more, but so far I haven't seen much like this for Mage. :(

Lv23 now and haven't even started running instances yet. Haven't had the time.
