Scanner/Printer Advice

Hi guys. I need some help here for my dad's business. He has $250 to spend on a printer/scanner and software (if needed). He needs to be able to scan order forms to the computer, and then put in a text-box over the section that needs to be written over, and put new words/numbers there. I have searched Staples.com, but am very confused. He wants a scanner/printer in one unit if possible. So my questions are:

-Is it worth it to buy a scanner/printer in one unit? If so, what unit should I buy?
-Do I need special software? If so, what program?

Thanks for the help.

There are a large number of printer/scanner combinations to choose from available for that amount or less when browsing online. Or you looking to nuy online or in a retail outlet? HP makes some excellent models. Some go with Lexmark while NEC sees less problems. The software needed for operation is included when buying the unit. Then you can always decide on two separate models in case one fails it is less costly to replace. The type of printer is another consideration when choosing as well. Are you looking for cartridge or lazer there? You can look over several brands as well as both types of printer/fax/scanner types at Buy Printer, Printer Paper, Ink Cartridges, Scanners, Multifunction Devices at Newegg.com

I'm looking to buy from a store, not online. I have an HP scanner/printer/copier at home and love it...so I'll go with one of those.

As for the software, do I need anything?

You can buy a variety of softwares for different types of printing. There are plenty of photo printing wares along formals and other programs seen in retail outlets. To find anything specific you often heve to travel around a but though. The Cannon line is also one that gets favor as well as HP. That was item to addin here. Usually when you buy any printer like an HP there are a few program cds thrown in along with the printer software. For business applications that would be something you dad would look into on hos own there depending on what is needed and preferred.

So the software that somes with the printer/scanner will allow him to edit over and type over specific sections?

And would it or would it not be worth it to buy a scanner/printer single unit, or just buy a scanner? He already has a printer, but it's very slow.

Thanks again.

To modify a document scanned you will a text editor that will open the type of file the scanner saves documents into. Most printing softwares are for the essential drivers and configuration. A utility for cleaning the print heads and few basics are on the first cd if more like a photo shop type software is thrown in. A combo will see drivers for the scanner even the fax modem if included. Depending on OS like MAC or Windows the edit of anything scanned onto the hard drive would be performed by a text editor there if the sofrware package doesn't include one.
