It's out today in the UK anyone baught it it's on my birthday list I really liked Sim City 4 and the others and don't mind them making the latest one a new way of doing it. I'm just dying to see a review but the website ones won't be available in time.

oh dear
Gamespot 6/10
Euro Gamer 5

But i'm going off gamespot they hate Eve Online and they still have Sims 2 in the top 10.

Looks like were better off with SC 4 or City Life. Seems they took out all the challenging stuff to make it easier for kids to play even though that market is only buying games for Wii and and gamecube.

I considered buying Sim City Society's but I noticed all the reviews I have read were negative. I am looking for a Demo so I can test it out, I don't want to drop $50 on a game that might suck. I enjoyed Sim City 3 but for some reason I didn't enjoy Sim City 4. I don't know why but Sim City 3's finances were easier to control I feel. I got to play the game again and see what the problem was, this happened 2-3 years ago.

screw the reviews. in this market, the only way developers get a good review is if they pay for it. besides, why would you let somebody else choose what you like and don't like. if anything, you should watch videos and screenshots, and chat with people who actually have it and play it instead of reviewers who get it, play it for a few mins, and then write a review as if they've spent months playing it.

kinda hard to say how easy it might be. If you've played other simcity games, then any new ones will be pretty easy for you to learn since you already know all the basics about the game and already know how the game runs.

Well I took note of personal reviews and for the most part they are not positive either. I even went to the forums for the game and some people complained they wanted their money back because they didn't like the game.

ehhh....i just tried it....its nothing like the true city building sim that simcity 4 was.

its more of The Sims but in town level instead of house level
you have to keep the sims happy via leisure activities, give them work, keep it looking beautiful (if you want) by building decorations...all i can say is ugh.

i for one am disappointed in it.

I re-played Sim City 4 for a few hours yesterday and learned what was causing me problems. I was spending more than I was making. I played Sim City 3000 and it seems easier to take control of the finances.

Sim City 4 has a lot more going on that costs you money. Only me and one of my friends were ever able to consistently control the budget and make money in SC4. It's a good game I like it a lot but for those that can't control spending it gets annoying fast.

Sim City Societys is probably a logical step for EA. Take the Sims, an insanely popular game and expand it a level. I haven't played it but that's what it sounds like it is to me. I'll stick with SC4 + Rush Hour.

all the simcity games can be quite easy. when it comes down it it, they are just waiting games.
once you start making money you just have to wait for it to build up so you can zone more to make more money. don't build anything like schools, police, etc unless your making enough to cover the monthly cost.

Thanks, good advice. Just if you have people living in your city won't they complain and leave if you don't offer these services?

Over an extended period of time your sims will complain and eventually leave. But for a young city just starting out they are not needed. I don't normally add police, fire, education etc. etc. until my sims are actually wanting it and it shows up on the news ticker.

Is that long enough to be making enough of a profit from taxes to build these things without bankrupting you? Its hard to get enough taxes from the people I found in Sim City 4.
