Sound Problem Gateway

Does anyone know why my new Gateway 700GR has a constant hiss in the background of it. I tried doing everything the Gateway website told me to but it just didn't work, even when i turn the sound all the way down there is still a slight hiss. The hiss gets slightly louder when i open a program or put in a cd or something like that. Is this a normal thing? Mind you it's not a loud hiss, but it's enought to annoy my ears, my Mac didn't hiss like this. The hiss shows up on the speakers, and on my headphones, and stays if i turn the speakers off. Any insight would be really great.

You mean my fans are causing the hissing in my speakers and my headphones, or the noise is the fans themselves? Because i think i'd be able to tell the difference, and if the fans are causing the noise then that just plain bothers me (is there anything i can do about it?)
