standby vs hibernate

I have been thinking about doing something so my computer starts up faster. The most obvious thing is to put it in standby or hibernate. standby obviously being the faster choice.
I was wondering, how much power is a normal comp using during standby? I want to put it on standby when im not using it but im afraid about how it will effect the power bill. Does standyby use a noticeable amount of power to do much to the bill?

I might choose hibernate since this is effectively a shutdown to the comp and I have plenty of HDD space.

So what are ur suggestions. If the power bill isn't effected too much i'd gladly use standby so anyone with personal experience?

standy uses less electricity but it does use electric.
hibernate uses hdd space to store all data from memory.

go with the first one if you want fastest but your pc remains on.

is this for a laptop or desktop?

my pc, when on standby, everything is still on except the monitor and the hdd.

for me standby is really for laptops. i would really go with hibernate if you have a fast computer.

When my computer goes into the standby, just about everything turns off, fans, harddrives, monitors and who knows what else. I personally really don't like these things as I don't need my computer up right away and it only takes me like 25 seconds to boot anyways (from clicking power button to desktop).
