Just curious, is anyone else out there is planning on getting this game when it comes out?

Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) is an upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game based in the Star Wars universe, for those of you who don't know.
It's similar to other big MMO's such as WoW and Rift, but it claims to add a fourth pillar to the MMO equation; Story

All NPC's and characters will have voice overs as well, making it a bit different than other games in being that everyone will speak, and differently.

It's quite a bit like Knights of the Old Republic if you've ever played it.
For more info go to: http://www.swtor.com/

I plan on playing for the Empire as either a Sith Inquisitor or a Bounty Hunter, I'm undecided.

A lot of new information and gameplay videos have come out recently due to PAX East, you can find them on youtube or askajedi etc. I suggest you watch the Tara V flashpoint(instance) walkthrough on the SWTOR website.

What do you guys think about the game?

No, from what I have heard between those that were in the Alpha, it doesn't come close to Rift, which from experience and most other's opinion, is much more fun than WoW.

Also, you say no others incorporated story - what about WoW and all of the lore from Warcraft: Humans v Orcs up until WC3:TFT? The whole story and lore behind warcraft (until they killed Azeroth with Cata :(:() is amazing if you study it, whoever came up with it has such a brilliant mind

I do agree with you, other games have definitely implemented a great deal of story, although I never played any Pre:WC3, from what I have played, WoW has genius ideas behind it. I froze my account after beating LK 25 man, didn't have the heart to buy Cata.

What I meant was a more character specific, and unique to each individual kind of story.
Bioware claims that every single action/decision/ etc. you make will forever change your characters in one way or another, and your entire storyline will be completely different than others.
Supposedly no one will have the same storyline unless they make the exact same decisions as another player.

They've changed a tremendous amount since the beginnings of Alpha.
I've yet to play Rift so I can't compare it to my experience with WoW and GW.

That is where imagination and rp'ing comes in though. I personally prefer a game such as WoW where you make a character and you can forget that everyone is clearing the same instances, so far as I am concerned, myself and the other 24 people are the only people to have done it, and the same goes for battlegrounds. When they make the story for you, it turns into an interactive film rather than a story that you are a part of

I enjoy this. It is my ideal game as well. If you want to play out a pre-written story...couldn't you just watch a movie?? I hate the idea that no matter how you play a game, the outcome is still the same. I think that's my attraction to mmorpg's, wow in specific. I have my character and I build and develop that character however I choose. I can play that character how ever I want to. Though, rift being much more fun that wow I still can agree with. rift is more fun cause it's new. wow was hell fun when it was new as well. We really have to wait and see what happens with rift...Doesn't mean I'm not gonna buy it though!

I am really considering getting Rift, even though I said I'm not going to pay for another MMO after WoW, because you can get more games and much more enjoyment from those games with the money spent on one game per month. It was so incredibly fresh and fun to play, and all that keeps coming from it is praise

I played Rift whilst it was in Beta and I SERIOUSLY considered getting it, it is definitely the biggest contender to WoW's crown that I have come across, I think SWTOR is going to be the most expensive flop ever!

Does Rift have a monthly subscription? Cause I'm still thinking about getting it, I'm currently playing WoW Cata, but it's getting boring and repetitive.

I too played in in beta and thought the exact same. There have been quite a few that have been tipped to be the WoW killer, but I genuinely think this could be it - the amount of praise and hype it is getting, I wouldn't be surprised if it did take over as the top dog for MMO's, then maybe Blizz will make WC4 and say that WoW had no overall influence on the Warcraft universe.

Yes Rift does have a monthly subscription, the same as WoW I think, so £9/month for us UK lot, obviously with discounts the longer you pay, in 1, 3 and 6 month instalments.

there you go, that is the pricing

Well, I broke down and bought it with best buy gift cards...so it was more or less free for me. I'm pretty upset at the patch download speed. It started off just fine. but now it's at 5.x kb/s. That's ridiculous!! I'm afraid to stop it and restart it cause I don't want it to undo what it's done so far. Haha. I'll update when I actually start playing though.

Sorry about the thread jack. Aastii started it.

Ah Brilliant, I might look into it more when I have finished my degree! (only 3 months max to go!).

This is the only "WoW Killer" that I personally haven't seen advertised as a "WoW Killer", so I think it has potential :) lol

I have mixed feelings about Rift so far. It's beautiful, that's a fact, though it's not smooth in the gameplay. They'll need to fine-tune it so it feels right (by that I mean, mouse and key responsiveness and that kind of thing). I may be stupid but I don't quite understand what to do in rifts besides kill what pops up. And while you think everything is moving along so fast past, you've played for hours and only got to like lvl 10. Also, the quests need more variety and less WoW syndrome.

gameplay: Exactly the same. Honestly the mechanics are so similar that I was able to
pick it up like I had been playing the game for as long as wow.

pvp: I can't say, I only got to lvl 10.

graphics: Obviously, above and beyond. Though I don't feel you can compare them that
much. WoW is suppose to look more cartoony and colorful. Though, rift is
amazingly beautiful. Especially the land scape. The character models are
stunning as well. The female dwarves!! Don't shoot me when I say, they are
freakin hot! Though they really just look like short women instead of the wow
version of dwarves. So, the graphics are undoubtedly better.

I might have to check it out once I work myself up to building my own computer, if it's still as popular as it is now.
