I can't open Steam. Everytime I do it says "Steam is already running. You may only open one copy of steam at a time." I tried uninstalling it and then using Ccleaner to get rid of any traces and then I reinstalled and I still have the same problem. Help please.

have you tried ctrl+alt+delete

processes steam.exe end process thats what do when i get that problem

Yes, that didn't work either. I just kept trying and trying to start it and it finally worked itself out.

if u tried everything uninstall steam, reinstall... I had that problem before although i havent opened steam in a while because im addicted to COD4 but .. alt control delte.. remove the process steam... are you 100 % your just not seeing it?
Ive had issues with steam before too and its frustrating.. try rebooting and reinstalling

Ah, the joy's of steam! God I hate that freakin software!

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you, just wanted to add my sympathy's for your frustration.

I tried to use it when HL2 came out, I ended up deleting it and destroying the DVD.

Now I reinstalled it to play TF2. It was smoother than it used to be, but still more of a pain than it needs to be.

Freakin Valve software!

OP says it fixed. I agree with Paratwa though, I'm one of those people who hate steam, the only reason I have it installed is because Mep916 gifted me HL2 and ep.1, awesome dude! :D

I appreciate it :)

steam bugs out on me sometimes, especially when it gets updated and I have it running. I have to kill the process and restart it and all is good. I like steam because it makes people pay for their games and they should. It also keeps track of everything you buy, so if you uninstall or wipe and reload you can go right back to steam and download all your paid for software again. nice features if you ask me.

Excellent features. Recently, I had to reinstall Vista. I reinstalled Steam and downloaded all my games. It was that easy. ;)

Used to happen to me often in XP, does just fine in Vista...

I have also had servers kick me for not being VAC verified, and that was due to steam not updating itself (self healing options not available, they should add that feature) properly and if I kill the process and restart it, it will update normally and all is good again.

It doesn't bother me because I like the ability to just download all my games again through steam if I ever need to.
