System crashing whilst in-game (Battlefield 3) ?

Hello, I'm having an absolute nightmare with my system crashing when playing Battlefield 3, it happens around 30 mins into playing and I have to physically restart the PC. If I leave it (Crashed) I get a BSOD with the following error...

"A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor"

I understand this error is strongly related to overclocking, I had overclocked my processor to 3.8Ghz and memory slightly, but have since reset my BIOS to 'Fail-Safe Defaults' yet the crashing continues! I had stress tested the hell out of my CPU, GPU and also completed a memtest (Overnight) without any errors!

What I do not understand is how I am still getting the crashing after resetting my BIOS to FAIL SAFE defaults? I recently upgraded my GPU from a GTX 260 to a GTX 670 but I have the latest drivers?

My System:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit)
MOBO: Gigabyte X58a-UD3R
CPU: Intel Core i7 @ 2.8Ghz (Corsair H60 Watercooler)
MEM: 3x 2GB Corsair XMS3 1333 Mhz
GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 670
PSU: Xclio 600w
HD: 500GB Samsung Spinpoint

Thankyou for any feedback!

Remove any dust from your system, update your BIOS, uninstall and reinstall your graphics drivers in Safe Mode, and then look into replacing that PSU, that could be the cause of the issue. If you want my recommendation for a cheap but quality PSU which will work with a 670, a Corsair CX 600 would do.

Might also be worth testing your RAM with Memtest86 too, try the other stuff first though.

1. Heat is not the issue, the system is not restarting itself or shutting down, and any other issues would manifest themselves before half an hour of playing.

2. DO NOT update the BIOS. This will only ever be a last resort or if it is a known fix for the problem, and even then should only be done after every other option has been exhausted

3. The PSU is fine, Xclio make some good units, and that fact that it powers the system in the game when the components are under stress for half an hour immediately rules that out

My guess would be graphics drivers or chipset drivers, but go for one at a time.

Download Driver Fusion

http://treexy.com/products/driver-fusion

And download the latest video drivers

http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/win7-winvista-64bit-301.42-whql-driver-uk.html

Install Driver Fusion but do not run it, and do not install the drivers yet.

Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall the Nvidia drivers. Restart and boot into safe mode. To do so after POSTing repeatedly tap the F8 button to get the Windows launch options and choose Safe Mode.

Run Driver Fusion, selecting Nvidia - Display drivers only. Restart when prompted, again

Install the Nvidia drivers from the file downloaded before. Restart when prompted. Done

Thanks guys I'll give that a go Aastii before I begin to replace anything! The temps are fine I'm getting 60 MAX for my CPU and upto 55 for my GPU, I'll let you know how I get on mate

I've completed all the steps and It is still crashing, could it have something to do with the fact I have 'Realtek HD Audio' drivers installed aswell as 'NVIDIA HD Audio' drivers? :S

No, that has nothing to do with it. Just means you have onboard audio and audio through the video card.

Right I see, I really could do with a solution, It's strange how it only crashes when playing BF3, I can play FarCry2/Skyrim/GTA all day long

Its a small guess but try lowering settings for graphics, as that could be the source of the problem, after that its anyones guess

Might be worth a shot, but try reinstalling BF3. If it is the only program causing a issue then logic would say that it is a issue inside BF3 not with hardware or drivers.
