Time for a new router.

Hey everyone, im pretty clueless in the networking area of computers and i need some help. Here is a list of all the computers in my house.

1 desktop (gaming rig) hardwired- lots and lots of gaming
1 desktop hardwired- some games (probably more in the near future)
1 desktop wireless- very very light use, flash games internet etc
2 laptops- internet, email, more frequent use, no heavy duty applications/downloads

So we need a new wireless router that can support all this and still be fast enough so that i can kick ass online. Please help. THanks

I highly recommend the Linksys wrt54gl from newegg or your local store if they carry it. Great unit as far as I'm concerned.

IMO it doesn't really matter dual band router offer better coverage. Most router's come with 4 ethernet ports. You have to consider your needs. In my case I went with the Belkin N600DB. I hardwired 3 computers and my xbox and my ios devices are wireless.

I think you'll find any most routers that are gigabit you won't have any issues with wired gaming performance. W/L I would recommend a router that supports W/L N 300mb if its in your budget. I have a billion router personally and I have never had an issue with it, wired or W/L.

i think the wrt54g is outdated.
the only thing keeping it alive is the 3rd party firmwares available for it.

i recently upgraded from a wrt54gl to a wndr3700.
it's got 4 gigabit ports, 1 usb port, & simultaneous dual band operation. i'm very happy with it.

also, your ass kicking online will only be as fast as your internet speed, any router you get will be able to handle that no problem.

I'd have to second Johnb35's recommendation. This is the best router, super reliable with a long life and works great.
