Using Router on T1

Hello, I just purchased a regular router so I can turn the business I work at into a Hotspot. I'm pretty sure that the main connection for the building is T1. Will this work if I plug it in?

it should work, but most routers arent made for commercial use unless you bought a commercial router. if i were you i would get a decent 100 switch, and a nice wireless bridge. how many people do you think will be using this?

Thank You for your responses. I ordered it on the Internet yesterday. This is going to be used a bookstore. I'm guessing employees are going to use it the most. But, Once and a While a Customer will use it. Should I contact the Network Administrator before I try it out?

yeah, i would, especially if your cash registers and other things are hooked up to the same internet connection, you dont want people to be able to access things they shouldnt

I do not think the Cash Registers are on the same line, I will have to check. The reason why I want to contact the Administrator is I do not want people slowing the network down. I do not think that is an issue because all people are going to do is look for books. Should I set any security restrictions on the Router?

Somebody was telling me I need to have a NATing device if there is only one IP Address. What is that? Do you think this will slow down the whole network? Last Question, Do you think the Network Administrator will let me connect it?

they may. if they set it up then probiy. i mean you dont just want every one being able to connect

your router is a NATing device. all it does is turn one incoming IP address into a bunch of other ones on a subnet using reserved IP addresses. that way, you can have more than on internet device connected to a single connection

Thanks for all your help! I'm going to be getting it on Tuesday. I will let you know how it goes. Sadly the Network Admin is gone for a few weeks, so I'm going to have to wait.:(
