Weird V-sync cap.....?

When I play WoW, my v-sync seems to be locked at the lowest possible refresh rate, even though my refresh rate is supposedly at a higher setting. My refresh rate also seems to be acting up as it to is locked at a specific setting. I've tried different drivers but they all have similar outcomes. I've tried forcing it through the nVidia control panel but I still get the same result.

Can anyone help me on this?

Originally, I first found out about this problem using the in-game fps display and to double check my fps, I downloaded fraps, checked and got the same results.........
 
That's weird. I don't do much with V-Sync so I'm not really sure what to say... How many games does this problem affect? Any luck with other games?
 
vertical sync locks the FPS threshold to the refresh rate of a monitor. It doesn't actually lower FPS, just forces the video card to render only as many frames as needed, which is according to your refresh rate. You're saying it's locked below the R-rate?? Weird, where at specifically? Is triple buffering turned on in the NV control panel? Triple buffering adds an extra buffer unit to render screens, it helps combat the lower FPS associated with turning on v-sync.

That probably won't help.. Can you turn v-sync off? LCD monitors don't physically need refresh rate, so I don't think they ever went much lower than 60, using a DVI connection forces a locked 60 Rate.. Well, I'm not much help. I'll think some more, use google maybe..
 
Basically, when I set v-sync on with in-game res set supposedly at 60, the fps are capped at 50........ (or 53 with Forceware 169.04 drivers.......)
 
Oh, that's not much. Try triple buffering, it might help. Are you sure your card is not simply only able to render 50FPS? The short time I played Wow, i did so with my 7600gt, comparable to your card. 50 was around what I'd get, highest settings..

Does it happen with other games, like The Other One asked?
 
I know for a fact that I am capping at 50 as I can go well above that without v-sync on.....

I'll try other games later.........
 
Good, cause it could just be Wow..

The difference between 53-60 is hardly noticeable, I know that's not the best advice, just leave it, But I don't have much better. Maybe someone else, smarter, has an idea.
 
It seems to be that my resolution is actually at 50 when it says it's at 60 as all my games are capped at 50 when I force v-sync.
 
I just figured out what was causing it. Apparently a feature under Powermizer that supposedly throttles how much power the monitor uses will over-ride you desktop refresh rate settings to the lowest possible setting.

Glad you got it sorted. I was wondering if your r-rate was simply lower than stated, I just wouldn't have guessed it was a program that lowered it..
