What do you like in an FPS?

After reading some of the game feedback threads, decided I would pop the question, what do you like in an FPS game?
This is meant as a serious discussion, with answers more than one word answer if you know what I mean, as I am really interested.

Personally I like the game leaning towards more real I guess.
To do with health, pretty much AA has got it spot on for me. If you get shot in the leg, then you have a bad leg and do not walk as fast, you will bleed a bit until someone puts a bandage on (you don't see this though as the AA developer team needs to keep the game Teen rated) and others will see you have a limp. An artery will make you bleed a lot. Just things like that. Also you are a soldier which means you do have armour that can withstand a few bullets before it loses effect.
I also like to see realistic firearms and such in games. Soldiers normally do not get issued pistols, so again that is why I like AA3, no pistols, or knives for that matter.
They are just a few points, now lets hear yours!
Do you like it arcadey or realistic and why?

I prefer a mixture of both. I played AA a few times and the realism is great but most of the time i'm not patient enough for it. I don't really like spray and pray games as there are often too many noobs running around. I prefer games that encourage team work (battlefield series).

So far my favorite multiplayer game of all time would probably be Battlefield 2. I love the commander and squad system, vehicles and that you can have games of up to 64 players. It's ashame they made BFBC2 a smaller more console like game.

It might seem cliche: but I like constant action, not realistic, and an original/new story line or game tactic.

I mean, it's just seems silly otherwise. Why play a game that doesn't have action? Why play a game that is trying to be 'real as possible'? And why play a game that has nothing new to offer?

Hi KOBAj what game have you got that's ( And why play a game that has nothing new to offer ) different then.

Except that games such as AA3 do have a fair bit of action, every round.
Considering most games have their own uniqueness, pretty much all of them have new things to offer.
AA3 with it being as real as possible, although while needing to be toned down to keep it teen rated, still fun. BC2 with it's destructible environment etc etc.
Although I do know what you mean, with constant action, but games can be both.

Portal, hit all three categories pretty dang well...

I can name more if you would like,
Half Life series, Quake series, Doom Series, Left 4 Dead series, Halo series, etc...

I didn't mean to imply that AA3 didn't have action or anything. I was blindly commenting on this thread, so to speak. Sorry if you got confused.

(Though when I played AA 1, it sucked in the whole "constant action" sense. I can only hope AA3 is better.)

Oh no I thought you were saying that realism-ish games couldn't have action or anything new to offer, that's why I pointed out AA3.

I don't like games like that (at least not with AI) because the AI are retarded, and if you don't have the med kit, you die  Referencing ArmA: 2 and OP: Dragon Rising (IIRC). Yeah these games are realistic but pure boredom. Haven't played AA3 though.

Personally I like a game that has good AI, one of the biggest thing that keeps a game alive for me. Then there is how the weapons work. Depending on the game, they don't have to be realistic at all (Borderlands), or some games they should be somewhat more realistic (Black Ops, MW2, Crysis). And gore. That's always fun. But sometimes it just gets annoying when there is way too much of it.

I despise games with regenerating health (Looking at you COD and MOH) except crysis because it's awesome

Realistic weapons are nice. as in proper reloading, no left handed guns etc etc

A nice long story. Every played far cry on the hardest difficulty? It takes more than one day to beat it.
