Hi all
I've dug out my girlfriend's old laptop, which she said was broken. I turned it on and got a white screen. This seems to be a common problem with a lot of laptops and is usually put down to a faulty screen. I opened it up and saw the screen harness cable had been worn so much - one of the hinges was broken and putting pressure on the cable, they were all frayed - so I ordered a new one and put it in.
No change.
Plugging an external monitor in works fine and I was able to get into Windows and salvage all the files etc.
I picked up a new screen from ebay (seller said it was tested and worked). I've just plugged that in and I still have the same problem.
My question now is, is it definitely the motherboard here that is the problem, even though an external display works fine? The only other thing I think it could be is a faulty inverter, BUT, I can change the screen brightness with the function key and it works fine on the white screen. Could it be half-working?
