Im gona be heading moving off to a Univ. soon and i was looking at their recommendations for a computer. They said Windows XP home is discouraged. Why would they rather me get win XP/2000 Pro? Is it less secure on their network. I'm not planning on dishing 150$ for XP Pro i'd rather by a video card. What do you advise?

LOL for most people it shouldnt be a horribly depressing problem as long as they stay current with updates and excercise some form of common sense ... most of the kids in the residences I managed had WXP-Home .... odds are that your university will not make such a silly restriction as "WXP-Pro only" but you never know..... they'd say that somewhere of course if that was the case
