Wireless issue...

Hello to all, my name is Chris and I come in dire need of your help!

I am not very experienced with computers unfortunately, and apologise if the problem I have is outlined in an immature manner.

Basically, my family uses a wireless network from a Belkin router. The router works fine, and the host computer, and two others can all connect to the network. The host computer and this one both have internet access, and the problem lies with the laptop, which whilst definitely being connected to the wireless network, can not access the internet. It will not even open 192.168.2.1.

I am really not sure what the problem is, I have tried changing the TCP/ IP settings on the laptop to match those on my computer, but to no avail.

If anyone has any ideas as to how to solve this problem, I would be extremely grateful. I am sorry, but I am extremely unlikely to understand much technical language, so would really appreciate it if you could take your time to explain any solutions to my problem as if you were talking to a 5 year old!

So, hello, sorry, and thank you in advance.

Chris.

So leaving all the settings to auto/DHCP and try to repair the connection. Go to network connections, click on the wifi card, repair this connection is in Network Tasks on the side.

Yes most definately go back to your tcp/ip connections properties and click both of "obtain ip automatically and same for DNS.

Click start
click run
type cmd
hit enter
type ipconfig/all
hit enter
what does it say for your ip address ?

you are lucky it is a notebook and is mobile, for a test try connecting to the router with a cat5 cable.
If that works you may want to turn off any encryption ( don't forget to turn it back on again) you may have on the router and try connectiong again ( make sure the cat5 cable is disconnected)
If you connect it may be a distance issue.
