Worth a try?

My Dell Dimension 3000 has 512 DDR. The manual discusses DDR 333 RAM so I guess it's PC2700? It uses the Celeron CPU at 2.6GHz. I have been given a 1G stick of DDR-266 PC2100 like this.
The manual states, "...memory should be installed in pairs of matched size..." but if they are not, "...the computer will operate, but with a slight reduction in performance."
If I added the 1G stick and kept one of the existing 256's do you think I would see a net increase in performance?
Thanks for your comments.

Yes... you'll just lose dual channel. I believe in nearly every case, more RAM is favored over dual channel.

Thanks. I'll try it. Is there a way to 'measure' PC performance if I try it with, and without the new memory?
