WINDOWS XP PRO W/SP2
RADEON X-700 128MB
$1592

would it be possible to upgrade the memory later say 2gb (1gb X2)
and is it a good buy for the money.
I will probably never use it for gaming just for djing going to buy searto.
a 8lbs laptop will def beat packing crates of records up flights of steps.
and i might use it to record mixes. Battery life is not an issue as the laptop will be plugged in to my rackrider power conditioner.

Any help is greatly appreciated i am not computer savvy, i can get around on one but i am far from a pro.

if you are never going to use it for gaming then you have no need for that video card nor that high price.

check this one out.

for the price you have there you can easily get a much better laptop.

How much better and keep in mind i really don't want a branded laptop dell, gateway etc. i have never had a good experience with them.

hmmm i suggest dells because they have great customer support and i have ordered more dell laptops than i can count. the one i listed actually has gaming capability with the radeon x300 and is still a few hundred dollars cheaper. you probably do not want to buy a laptop from a smaller retailer considering if there are any problems, you would have to pay for shipping and that can cost up to 50$. i sent my dell in once so far because of a broken cdrom drive(i accidentally dropped it a little) and it was replaced free of charge and free one day shipping. also when i received my laptop it had a single burnt out pixel and i talked the representative into sending me a new laptop before i sent mine back. so you make the call.

Really, i don't like dell at all, i got my dell because of how incredible cheap it was, and becuase i could reformat and clear all the dell crap off of it.
but i would have rather got on off of ibuypower or cyberpower with the 256mb 6600 that is upgradable

and the 6800 aren't upgradeable?

the x300 isnt that good for gaming, hes much better off with the x700 if he wants to game.

it doesnt take much to run cs 1.6 and americas army. the trade off with better video cards is size due to heat issues. if he truly wants a gaming laptop then hes better off with a geforce 6800 or the x800.

You probably aren't familiar with what i'll be running
It is a program called serato scratch live. it is a vinyl manipulation system. basically i can control all my audio files with 2 turntables. the reason i am looking at some higher performance laptops is because i can't afford to have any snags while i am djing. audio cut outs and crashes are UNACCEPTABLE when you are rocking a party with 1500 to 2000 people the last thing i need is for my comp to overload and freak out. so i really want all the headroom i can have for a reasonable price. (Mac is simply out of my range) I want a graphics card that can completely handle all of the systems graphics needs without using the cpu's resources

that processor is unbelievably fast. that should suit you quite well.

and to answer your other question, yes you can upgrade the ram at a later time and should be a lot cheaper at newegg.

and with any laptop you purchase from retail, my best suggestion is a reformat to clear all unwanted program. you could also delete any partitions with junk in it and redistribute the space.

OK, i still don't like dell, and an ibp or cyberpowersystem laptop would be easier since u won't have to clear the hdd and reinstall the drivers and OS and stuff, but if u wanna go with dell, they are fine and stuff. one thing though, how do u controll the 2 turn tables? with mouse? cause that would be kinda hard.

everyone is entitled to their opinions. also i suggested formatting which is not a bad 40 minute job to save a couple hundred dollars.

er... halo runns pretty fine on a x300se..

thats because halo only requires a 32 mb 3D hardware-transform-and-lighting capable video card. the x300 better be able to play it.

but lets keep in mind hes not gaming at all.
