I havent really looked into the newer happenings of the video card market since I built this computer a year or so ago, and I held off getting a card because I knew the prices we're about to drop drastically, and I witheld for a long time and now that I have money to spend I want a card so I can play HL2 on a resolution higher than 800x600 and with better fps than 30 lol, I have pci-e but right now I have my old mx420 in the pci slot, and I see that these cards are around the same level on ebay in price and I know the x1800 is going to be best but is it worth the extra money, given I want to play HL2, FEAR, and maybe battlefield 2, what should I invest in?

Not sure how much you want to spend, but I have the x1800xt for $230 that can play BF2 at high detail. Hadn't tried FEAR or HL2 on this setup yet, but should be able to do high detail also. SAPPHIRE Radeon X1800XT 100154 Video Card - OEM at Newegg.com

i just purchased that card from newegg...works like a dream plays half life 2 and FEAR maxed at 1280 x 960 only thing is it gets really hot and if you're used to a quiet pc then its gonna be a little loud but to me its not a problem

I've had a good run with X1800Xt's and 1600, i'd go 1800 if u have the cash, but the 1600 usually isnt far behind
