I heard that the xbox 360 controller could be plugged into a PC. Is this true? Has anyone tried it? If so how does it work? I was thinking of buying an xbox 360 controller for my computer instead of the Logitech one.

i believe the 360 controller is sold as windows compatible. i know the 360 uses both wired and wireless controllers and the wired ones are usb

Yes they are indeed compatible with the PC (wired ones only) I'm not sure why the wireless ones are not but they are talking about possibly making them compatible which would be nice. You can buy one that is branded Xbox 360 controller for windows which comes with a windows XP driver. You can also purchase a regular Xbox 360 controller and bring it home and download the driver for windows XP if they don't have the other in stock.

I'm probably going to do the same thing instead of getting a joy stick. I'll let know you if I tried. :P

I'm looking for something with a D-pad, for playing Mario^_^

Also the sticks are good for racing games. I'll still use the keyboard and mouse for fps's though.

too late, bought the 360 controller:P It actually works pretty good with the PC. super easy install.

Does the controller work with DODS, CSS, HL2, NFSMW, Quake 4, Doom 3, etc.?

So they function as joysticks? Or do they work like a keyboard and mouse? If so, how would you use them for RTS's??:P

ya, i would like to know to if its possible to use the wirless one. Bump!
the wireless one will only work if you buy an signal thing that is suppose to go with it I havent seen one to buy but I did checkout some site that had pics of it but I don't belive it is out yet

This is a very old post, and when it was created the wireless controllers did not work. Yes they now do work if you purchase the other component.

the wireless ones are also USB ;)

No they're not. The wireless ones are just the controller, the reliever is built into the XBox. I think they make the controllers specifically for computers, but the wireless controllers are not interchangeable between the XBox and a PC.

I have been using 360 controller to play oblivion and carbon on pc for a while now. its really good control for pc. only down side is that it dont offer rumble like when u plug it to 360. :(
