As far back as Goldeneye64 and Perfect Dark on N64 I've been obsessed with multiplayer in FPS's. Over time they got funner and funner.
Then CoD 4 came along and blew the rest away. I hate to think how many hours I put into that game, but it got to the point where I could log in to any HC server and go 100+:1 99% of the time. Didn't matter what guns and perks I used, I ruled that game. Then WaW came out and it was ok, but the series has gone downhill ever since and it's been killing me watching the series and community just go right down the toilet. Instead of improving on what's great they've increased the few bad qualities of 4 and pandered to the lowest common denominator of the fan base.
It seems like every time I play any of them now it's nothing but people being absolute bitches hiding in the most random area they can find or 12 year olds who want to scream and yell shit they can't get away with in real life and just be annoying. As the video game industry itself steadily declines it's all the more disheartening to have such a recent game bring your hopes up for gaming and then have them dropped so low by it's sequels. For someone who's been gaming since they got their first NES at 5 years old back in 1992, it's getting pretty damn depressing.
I could sit here and rant about the industry as a whole for hours, but I won't.
And because I know it's going to come up, yeah, there's Battlefield, but I've never been a big fan of the series. BC 1 and 2 were pretty good, but nothing exceptional. BC3 looks good, and I'll likely get it, but it's still going to have a lot of aspects I don't really like. Things that have bothered me as long as the series has existed.
