Sony laptop wont boot from CD

I am trying to boot Sony laptop from external CD connected via USB so I can format and partition the hard drive - I set the BIOS to boot from CD first and still booting from the HD - I test my CD of windows XP and it work on my other laptop and it boot from the CD , how can I force it to boot from the CD ?

I'm not sure,but since it's a USB drive,maybe you should set the BIOS to boot from USB/external devices first.Just a thought

Exactly what he said. But keep in mind that older model laptop's and desktops may not have support for booting of USB in the bios. Just thought I'd let you know before you drive yourself crazy trying to find the settings and wondering why they're not there.
