update: I tried all the suggestions given above, the terastation wasnt having any of it. because its all for work, the WD is now sold, and another terastation for backing up should be on the way soon!

no i dont think it will be outdated within 5 years. but a burner is not worth it just yet. discs are not cheap, so that just adds to the cost of burning blu ray discs. if you want stuff on blu ray (games or movies) just get them second hand from rental shops! cheap and cheerful!
