Can you guys help me pick out a decent $500 PC. So now, i guess i tell you waht I need and what im gonna do with it and you all with do most of the rest (I know very little about building computers, but i will try my best to help).

What I have:
Monitor
Speakers
Keyboard
Mouse
DVD drive
CD burner

This is what i plan on using it for:
Games (Nothing intense, Stronghold 2 is prolly the most demanding that i have, but i rarly play it. Dont recommend a a graphics card that costs $100 more just because i said I play this game.)
Web Surfing (with alot of tabs and windows)
Movies (I want good sound and picture quality, but nothing that special. I mean I have a few year old Dell flat screen monitor, which means i dont care that that much.)
Videos (I usually have around 60, 5 min. videos on my computer, plus a few full length movies, and maybe 100 songs. So I dont need a huge HD.)

I think thats about it. The majority of my time on my computer is spent surfing the web and playing a lot of short videos. One more thing. I dont really care about AMD or Intel. I mean i doubt ill notice the difference.

Thanks

Edit: One more minor thing. The case cant have the USB ports and headphone jack on the side. I have a computer desk, that wont have enough room to allow that. I just noticed quite a few have them near the fron, but on the side.

Not too sure, but why not go with a 7600GT video card, it is somewhat cheaper, but I think (I said I think) it is a better performer than the 8500... Sure enough it doesn't have DX10, but I doubt 8500 could do anything with something that would require it.

here's a link to a card: 7600GT

As for the HDD, he could go with a 250gb from Western Digital and be a little over budget, but he'd have something to suit his needs.

Of course, I am not so sure about that PSU, but well...

you forgot the OS. OS= $115 Case ~$50
Your grand Total $573

My suggested build would be ~$540

Both builds would be good, and very close in performance

Im really loving all you guys help. What do you all think of using a Dell case. I mean, would the size work? I could gut mine, and then install all this new stuff. Save some money? Just be honest. If a Dell case is horrible, tell me.

i would highly recommend XP over Vista. I'm still on XP and my friend put Vista on his laptop and has basically had nothing but trouble with it

Yeah if you need to buy an OS get vista (64Bit). I have it and love it, i personaly think it performs better than XP.
