A strange thing happened with my external hard drive

In a previous post I wrote about a failing Segate external hard drive. I have since moved the backup to an older and smaller external Western Digital hard drive. Now neither drive appears to be having much difficulty staying connected. This appears to be contrary to logic, what do you think is going on? Could the Segate be unable to handle the high level of seek requests?

Maybe there is not enough power to the drive? If you have a drive connected to the USB hub, rather than directly to the port, it is possible that there is not enough power for all the devices simultaneously connected to the hub.
