You should also check out Stronghold 2, it's pretty cool, and it's a lot like AoE.

Agreed! Stronghold series are great fun! Always loved original age of empires and the 2nd one, but never played the third... was put of by guns!!
The settlers is also supposed to be a great game, anyone played it?

Age of Empires was my favorite strategy game until Warcraft 3 came out.

Cossacks is also a great one!! its a bit harder due to people start dying if you run out of food etc... but you can make HUGE armies etc... lots of fun

I loved AOE. Empire Earth was good but now I play Rome Total War and Medieval 2 Total War.

I love AOE I & II but didn't like the third one that much.
I thought some of the charm went away when the guns and cannons came.
But thats just me.
Now I'm playing Medieval Total War 2, now thats a great game!
