The X2, but teh new Core 2 Duo from Intel beats both. If you only have a choice of those two, the get the AMD.

The X2 is the better option of the two. But if you can then try and grab a C2D 6300, they're far superior to both that X2 and the PD, and they are affordable as well. :)

you said it all

yeah if you can get a C2D that would be great.

Actually, I think the Intel D 2x3.2GHz is better than the X2 3800. An X2 3800 is just 2x Athlon 3000's slapped together, and they're named 3000's because they are equivalent to a Pentium 4 3GHz I believe (with HT off).

AMD dropped the PR scheme relative to Pentium 4 performance a while ago. So saying "Oh, it's an A64 3200+, so it's equal to a 3.2GHz P4" is wrong.

Secondly, an X2 3800+ is not two A64 3000+'s slapped together, considering that a crossbar has to be implemented into the cores, so that they can communicate from core to core, instead of using the HT bus. If you want to talk about two single core processors being slapped together, go have a look at the Pentium D.

And really, just go look at the comparisons. The X2 3800+ wins in the majority of them.

Completely wrong, as pyvnytrvny said.

The X2 3800+ would destroy the PD 3.2 easily. However the C2D is by far the best performer as or now.
