aoe3: difference in shader settings

i just wanted to show this to anyone who hasn't played the game or anyone else who is just curious. the difference between the shaders being on very high and high really are huge in my opinion, and it kills my performance as well. check it out:

(if you want to see them at a higher res let me know)

but anyways, i wish i could run the game with the shaders at very high. it looks the way it was advertised :(

I play 1280x1024 with every setting maxed and/or turned on, why are your comps struggling to play it?
Well it'll be as maxed as u can do.... cuz you dont support SM3.0

sm3.0? the 7800gt supports this..??

have you updated aoe3? i believe there is an update, and before i updated i couldnt play smoothly on 1280x1024, only at 1024x768; however, after the update, it runs smooth...

if you're referring to the autoupdate when getting on es online, yes.

if sm3.0 is the same as pixelshader 3.0, then yes ( http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/12/02/vga_charts_viii/page5.html )

otherwise, i have no idea what that is.

i've installed the x2 driver from amd's site, but i haven't installed microsoft's dual core patch. could this be the problem?

i wonder if the ss in the link below is my problem? it's a screenshot of cpu usage during a heavy fight on aoe when i was framing pretty badly...then again, the ss could be completely normal...i hope it's not!

edit: i'm assuming that aoe just won't use that second core .. so i guess my question is if there are any patches that will allow it to .. modoman, check your cpu usage for me when a big fight is going on and let me know.
