Hi,

Im just about to upgrade my computer with this processor
http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?origin=gbase16.5&prodID=B255784
and this motherboard
http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?origin=gbase16.5&prodID=B237835

But im slightly confused about what the best ram is

Should i get some 1333mhz ram like
http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?prodID=1772962

Or 1600mhz ram like this
http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?prodID=1795194

Why does the motherboard say it supports 1666mhz ram when i cant find any 1666mhz ram, do they 1600mhz ram?

Would you say its worth paying a little extra for these

Thanks

None of the links work but the first too. If you can get 1600 for a good price go for it. You just have to set speed/timing and voltage manually in the bios. It will default to 1333.

oops sorry, have fixed the links.

So 1600 stuff will only work at 1333? is that because of the processor or the motherboard?

Is it possible to get 1666mhz stuff or is it a case of overclocking 1600 or buying a faster memory and down clocking?

If i got this
http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?prodID=1738971
will it work at 1666?

thanks again

ps im looking to get 4 x 1gb ram sticks, will this run at 1333/1666?

it will run fine, but when you first turn the computer on you will have to go into the bios and set the correct 1600mhz timings, voltage and frequency. otherwise they will just run at 1333mhz

Neither one really. The bios just boots the memory at JEDEC standards.

Dont think it really has a setting for 1666. Probably to get it there you would have to bump up the Bus.

It would probable back clock to 1600. For the same reason I stated above.

Get two 2GB. sticks instead.

ooo sounds dangerous :) might just go with the 1333mhz stuff then.

On that board the memory setting are easy to change.

K, so it doesnt have to say its dual channel kit does it? as long as they are the same ram they will work dual channel, is that right?

Cool so i might try 1600mhz ram and then going into the bios if needed.

When your looking for ram should you take much notice of the input voltage as this
http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?prodID=1772965
is 1.5v whereas this,
http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?prodID=1815226
has a slightly higher voltage but a lower clock rate.

Does any of these look better than the others for their price?
http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?prodID=1815226
http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?prodID=1874842
http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?prodID=1772965
(ccant see any difference between the next two apart from the price)

cheers for the processor suggestion, might be worth changing to that one to save a little bit.

Thanks again
