my birthday is next month an i am getting $250 an i have $300 an i was wanting to upgrade this is what i had in mind
Upgrade my AMD 6000+ to a AMD Phenom 9750 2.4GHz an OC it a bit.
Upgrade my ATI 3870 to a ATI 4870
an that will come to about $550
what do you guys think is this my best option in future proofing my CPU for newer games that use 3 an 4 cores. an having a kick ass Video card in will have to help my Gaming.

Do it. The ATI 4800 series is the best. All I have is the 4850 and I can play Crysis on all high specs at 1280x1024 with 8x antialiasing and get up to 48 fps! No lie. But I only have a 17" monitor. It still is good. And I have that processor. I don't even overclock it because it only takes on a small load during games:

While playing Oblivion:

Core1: 21% load Core2:11% load Core3: 18% load Core4: 3% load

Very good processor.:D

You know? Your 6000+ is nothing to sneeze at. Why not get (2) 4850s and rock the house in Crossfire? You can overclock the 6000+.

If you are going to overclock a Phenom 9750 be sure you get a good heatsink and fan. The Phenom 9750 is 125 watt and sure to put out more heat if you overclock it. A Phenom 9750 running at the manufacturers specified speed would be adequate.

Also be sure you use thermal paste instead of a thermal pad. Your going to need paste to keep your processor at a decent temperature using a 125 watt processor.

The phenom 9750 is not better than 6000+ in gaming, it only better at mutli-tasking.

So, if you are only gamimg, then just upgrade your video card
