Boot problem

Hi Guys,

I have a Compaq Presario M2000 laptop running windows XP Home Ed. Every time i startup the computer it will not reach to the login box and sticks at the splash screen with nothing happening. I have tried booting in to safe mode and booting from last known good configuration, both hang before the login box.

The last thing i have tried is checking the disk from recovery console (chkdsk) and using fixboot. Still none of these has worked and my lappy is doing the same thing.

Any ideas on what this can be?

any help appreciated.
