Bootable antivirus/antispyware?

Hi
An infection has a good grip on a friend's laptop. I can't log in in regular or safe mode.
Is there a bootable free app (WinXP) I could use as my next attempt? I'd only use one that's been recommended - I don't want to make matters worse!
Thanks

If you don't mind risking your machines, you could pull the drive and use it in your machine. But if you still want to stick with bootable stuff, I'd suggest looking into BartPE. It takes a bit of preparation to get the disk ready, but it is very effective. It actually is an entire OS built from Windows, thus is can run or be made to run most Windows applications.

Thanks - I'll try bart. I'm not keen on hooking up the drive - never having opened a laptop before. Not hard I'm sure, but I'd feel really bad if I broke his hardware.
