Computer not working?

My Compaq Preserio stopped working suddenly last week? It has XP SP3 and I turned it on one day and as the little blue bar goes across it suddenly sticks for about half an hour then restarts. I have gone into Safe Mode and double double checked and I have no viruses, I'm pretty sure. The only thing I have done in the last week is update a driver. Now I left this in the hands of a friend who is apparetly good at fixing computers, but now he says he has uninstalled the driver and it still won't work? So I'm wondering what to do? Thanks in advance

use system restore and go back a week, see if the problem still exists. if so, you might have a hardware problem.

There is some possibility that some of file in the operating system are corrupted or missing , you can fix this by using the recovery console .
