Connecting my laptop to wireless network?

Hello. I got a brand new Thinkpad laptop from my school today, and I've taken it home with me and want to connect it to my wireless internet network in my house.. The catch is when I search for a network, nothing comes up. Nothing at all. Though I'm 100 percent sure I've got a wireless network, maybe even 2.

Help me solve this prob, please.

Some laptops have switches on the side to turn on the wireless card. Make sure that the switch is on and look for a light to show that the card is active.

The radio connection, I know. I solved it though, but it wasn't that.
