hello new to the site.. been lurking for a few weeks now. I'm looking to replace my 9 year dell. there will be little to no gaming on this PC, mainly internet, movies, music, videos, and used for all my online college classes. Also music/beats. but im sure what i have can handle that..

After some more research i have come up with this list.. how this look? still debating on case.. and do i need a cpu cooler?

MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131646 $119.99

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103921 $109.99

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277 $49.99

HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185 $64.99 (but i may change hard drives)

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139019 $69.99

CD/DVD Drive/Burner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135221 $21.99

And my friend is giving me a video card i think he said its a 9800 gt (or gtx) i dont remember exactly..

so let me know what u think and what i should change or keep, any help is appreciated.

Really the best between the two. Has more room and Fans. Basically a full tower case, dont know why they call it a mid tower.

The Phenom II 840

Save alittle bit and get a board with a more updated chipset.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131647
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157243
or about the same price

Power Supply. You only have a 9800GT, but this will give you alittle overhead for upgrades.

How much do you want to spend on a case?

how about this one?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...m_re=Asus_M4A88T-V_EVO-_-13-131-668-_-Product

and can i still use this memory with it? cuz from the specs it doesnt say ddr3 1600.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-na&AID=10521304&PID=4169961&SID=nz42beveku7v

or move down to something like

Bad? No. Old? Getting some age. Like said, the chipset is dated. AM3+ will be out pretty soon also.
Do you plan to run 2 GPU's?

No. Only running the 9800gtx cuz friend giving me it. There will be little to no gaming done on this computer. Just trying my hand at building my own. And I want something that will last me the next 2-3 years before I decide to build again. My 8year old dell isn't cutting it anymore.

This is pretty much my beginner computer. Don't need the best. Just something good next build will probably be a much better one.

In post 2 the 880's have built in video capabilities, but can run a vc for demanding things like games just like the 870 that doesn't have the onboard vc. The onboard can be handy if the card goes out, and will do things like HD, BR, 2 monitors, tv hook up, but so can the GPU. All 3 mb's have the newer chipset w/ Sata 6 and USB 3, so any of them would be good choices.

If your getting Windows 7, as most ppl do, and it's the oem product key, a bit more emphasis can be placed on the mb. You can replace/upgrade any part w/o having to buy another key, except the mb.
