Howdy all hope your all well...

At the end of this month I want to get a laptop purely for gaming, I don't want to spend more than 1,200 (will push to 1,500 if needed).

It will be for MMORPGS plus a few FPS games, basically I have a desktop which is more than capable of playing the games I like but I want something mobile for when I am at work or at girl friends.

Lapstops I have looked at so far...

Dell Studio XPS 16

Price - 999 - 1300

Alienware M15x

Stock price 999

They both use ATi chipsets, will get a proper mouse for it too (dont like the touch pads for gaming). If you know of anything better/cheaper that will suit my needs please let me know.

Thanks ppl,
Steve

Novatech vs Asus
Novatech - 1920 x 1080 screen. GTX 260m faster than 5730.
Asus - Cheaper, 5730 support DX11, Well known brand world wide. World wide warranty

Thanks daisymtc,

I see the i7 Mobile 720 Quad Core is only 1.6GHz and the i5 540M is 2.53GHz

Would the i7 still be the more superior processor?

The i7 720 mobile is 1.6GHz...but it overclocks itself to 2.8ghz when necessary!

Yes, it is a fabulous processor for laptops and I highly recommend it!

I'd go with the asus and use the difference to get an ssd (though I assume it comes with 2 hdds so you will have to remove the smaller). Although I dont know much about the 5730, I think it would actually play just as well at native because of the lower resolution screen, though I don't know for sure so someone else can comment on that.

I don't know anything about novatech but asus quality and customer service is great.

Also as far as games, see my sig but note that my screen is 1440x900.

If you really want a hot gaming laptop, check out the Asus G73JH. Comes in various versions (G73JH-A1, G73JH-A2, G73JH-X1, G73JH-X2, G73JH-X3).

The biggest differences between the versions is blu-ray vs dvd drive and hard drive sizes/single or dual hard drives.

Here is the specs on the A2 (A1 has blu-ray):

17.3-inch 1080p (1920x1080) display with LED backlighting
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel Core i7-720QM processor (1.6GHz/2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB L3 cache)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 1GB GDDR5 graphics card
8GB DDR3-1066 RAM
Two 500GB 7200RPM hard drives (Seagate Momentus 7200.4/ST9500420AS) (Non-RAID)
Atheros AR9285 802.11n Wireless LAN adapter
Built-in Bluetooth 2.1+EDR
8X DVD Super Multi drive
Two-year limited warranty (one year on battery pack) with one year of accidental damage protection
8-cell battery pack (14.8V, 5200mAh, 75Wh)
Weight: 8.5 pounds
Dimensions: 16.3” (W) x 12.6” (D) x 1.8” (H)
MSRP: $1,599

Very awesome laptop, if you can find one.

Wow, I didn't realize there was so much of a price difference between the US and UK-that's nearly twice the price. Sorry about that...

With a 6 cell battery, that thing is going to have terrible battery life. Can't say if it's a good deal since I'm in the US though.
