Hard Drive will mount and install Linux but NOT XP?

I have a conundrum - while trying to do a fresh OS install on my netbook I get a funky "does not recognize file system" error when I try to install XP, but I can install Jolicloud Linux 1.2 with no problems... Can anyone tell me why I might be able to install Linux but NOT XP on a hard drive? What is the issue??

Did you format the whole drive as one file system other then fat32 or ntfs? XP can't install to any file system other then those 2.

Try a zero fill utility on the drive before trying another install of XP. It will make sure the disk is completely clean of all partitions and everything.

I would recommend gparted. But anything would work. You just need to make sure you wipe it all the way.
