Hello,
I'm looking at buying a desktop in the future, and thought that you guys could help me out.
What I plan on using the desktop for is, general daily internet use, writing, video editing, and playing of Minecraft and The newest elder scrolls game to come out.
My budget it around $800, if you have options a bit more in price, post them and I may consider them.
Thanks for the help,

For $800 you could build your own desktop which would be superior to a machine at the same price you get at a store. However, if you don't have knowledge of building then it may not be for you. Or maybe have someone build it for you.

I do not have much to no knowledge in the computer building community, but I could start looking into how a computer is put together. Cause I want to get the most bang for my buck as almost anybody else does.
What I want for specs wise that I know I want is, at least 6Gb of ram, possibly a 1Tb hard drive, considering that I'm gonna be having videos and other items of that nature.

If you could help me with some other info for what I'm looking for that'd be great.

Thanks for the help so far!!

What all do you need in $800?
1.)Do you need an operating system(like windows 7 etc)
2.)Do you need a monitor?
3.)Do you need a Keyboard and Mice?

Yes, I would need all of those options, but I don't need the very best in the monitor or keyboard and mouse. The operating system I would like is Windows 7

I need some help with the hard drives, what does it mean when it says 3.0Gb/s or 6.0Gb/s?

Also, if I plan on getting the i5 or i3 would it be able to support 3 sticks of 2Gb RAM?

You'll need a motherboard that supports SATA 3 to take advantage of 6.0 GB/S HD's. In fact I don't think normal hard drives can even take advantage of 6.0GB/S, OR EVEN 3.0GB/S. The only reason for 6GB/S is because current Solid State Drives are going above 3.0GB/S.

Talking about SSD's, if you have room to throw one in your budget large enough for windows, I'd highly recommend it. Out of all the upgrades I've gone on any computer, the hardware that gave me the best performance improvement (For everyday OS uses, not gaming) was a good SSD.

Yes both of those CPU's can support 3 sticks of 2GB of RAM. What you need to watch for is whether your motherboard is dual-channel or triple-channel. Putting 3 sticks of RAM into a dual-channel mobo will slow down your computer.

Here's every thing that I have picked out so far(note none of this is bought yet, just in thought), any help/comments are greatly appreciated. I'm willing to save money on most items, but not quality.

Hard drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148433

CPU: (either one, I can't really decide yet) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115074 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115077

Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171053

CD/DVD Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119160

Still not sure about ram and stuff like that, so any help would be great.

Thanks!

Sorry to say but looking at the parts you are looking at I don't see how your 800$ budget is very realistic!

i5, Cooler Master case, PSU, HDD, DVD Burner is already 510$... you still don't even have a Mobo, Video Card and RAM!

If you spend 800$ on the tower itself then your budget is a little more realistic but if you have to add a keyboard, mouse and screen I would say your budget with the tower should be around 1000-1100$...

I must say i5 would be a better choice over the i3!
The case is a great case too very good ventilation!
PSU is ok but could get better... the rest is fine!

Once I get home I'll see what else I can piece out for you!

Since looking into this project, I have actually thought of raising my budget up to around $1000 anyway, so that is my new budget.

Okay guys, I have a bit of good news, I won't be needing a monitor, because I just remembered that I have a TV that can also function as a monitor for a computer, so you guys don't have to worry about that. Keep the help coming!

Is the CPU just as good as the i5 from intel? I'm just wondering, since I'm gonna be doing video editing on this computer as well. Thanks for the great help as well!

You can't post the link to your wishlist unless you make it public. Just copy and paste the links to your parts in the reply.
