HELP me with first RAID5

Hey guys,

Existing setup, 1TB hdd: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-

Cyber Monday wishlist - 2 new 2TB hdds, SSD for OS

Very soon I would like to run my operating system on a SSD and run RAID5 with 3 drives, two 2TBs, and one 1TB. Shouldn't be issues with running different sized hdds right, esp if they are the same speed (remember exclude ssd from raid, that is just os drive)

One more thing to consider is that my mb: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_- has just two 6gb/s SATA ports - will that make my parity to the 3gb/s noticably slower?

I also need suggestions on a raid controller - but I have heard this is just done via mb bios configuration? All info and help is greatly appreciated; I need to expand my RAID knowledge in 1 week. Thanks!

Your motherboard has a RAID 5 controller on it. You don't really need the performance of a true hardware controller. If you look in your manual it will have complete directions on setting up RAID 5.

I wouldn't ask like that because you too, don't have the answer...

Ugh I'm sick of people employing their personal opinion in a forum post where the comment is uneccesarly and a waste of time, just like this one.

Thank you so much, this is what I wanted to hear. Solid advice, not an opinion!
