How can I upgrade my computer

Hi I have a Pentinum 4 540 with ati graphics(dunno what's called), I am wondering what would be the first steps of upgradin this system as I don't want to buy a new one entirely, Do i just need to buy the cpu and gpu or do I need new motherboard?
please help me, I am a noob at this don't really know what I should buy

Unfortunately, you will need a new system. That system is almost 10 years old I bet. I had the same processor and built mine back in 2005.

If you had the rest of the specs, we could help you more. You could get away with cheap motherboard and cpu. And we need what you want to do with it. Also a budget.

Yeah, you'd have to buy a new motherboard, processor, ram and a new copy of windows, then a new graphics card and power supply for it, maybe even new hard drives too, only keeping the case.

Building a new computer from the ground up is your best bet.
