How much power?

I have an older Gateway and I think I might turn it into a file/printer server. I am going to install Xubuntu. Of course it will be running 24/7. How much more do you think my electricity bill would be each month? The machine was manufactured in 2000, I don't know if that is any help.

That doesn't tell us anything. Your best bet would be to get a wattage meter and read how much power your computer is putting out exactly.

seriously, xubuntu isnt that great for servers

use debian or centos - they are much more stable - if you insist on using a GUI, centos has some nice tools.

hint: use the netinstall cds

should be fine. I got a compaq proliant (dual pentium 2 and 256ram) running nt4 as a file/print server and my bill aint that bad.
