HP Pavillion Laptop Problem :(

Okay so I got this laptop as a present from my parents and on first boot I get a box that says "Enter Administrator Password or Power on Password." It doesn't even go to the bios or anything. How can I bypass this? I'm comfortable taking it apart if I need to take the battery out of the motherboard I just don't know where it's at on a laptop. Or if there is some password I could try to unlock it that would be great. It only take up to 8 characters so it can't be anything big. I've tried things like pass, password, pass1, 01234 and random stuff like that but none of it has worked. Any help would be great because I'm lost on what to do now.

if your parents set the password you could ask them, however if its new, id just call HP

I called HP and they said to ship it to them and they could fix it for 400 dollars. No thanks. And my parents didn't do anything to it it came like that.

Was your parents laptop a display model?

The same exact thing happened to my wife's laptop when we bought it. It was a display model and they were going to give me 20% off so I decided to buy a display. Turns out some customer at one time or another made a password so we could not log on when we got home. I took it back and paid the extra 20% and got a boxed one.
