HP5500 All in one will not scan and I get error messages

My HP5500 worked for years and all of the sudden it has a hard time opening. Before it opens I get two errors Hpqselsk.exe and
Hpqthb08.exe. In addition, once it opens my scanner is gone. I can ONLY print with my all in one printer now. I can not scan anymore and do not know why.

I am running windows XP Media Center on a Dell PC using firefox. I DO NOT use IE at all.

I have tried uninstalling the software and reloading it a few times but I have not deleted everything out of my C: directory and reload.

Any ideas?

It may be that it's just old and dying. Or, a driver update could have put a bug in it. Try reverting to an older driver.
