From windows?

Will that save power? Im looking to fill a few pci slots but im not sure if i have a powerful enough power supply.
I have ingregrated sound which i dont use, could that be turned off? What about drives, floppys, memory sticks, different ports like firewire and ps/2 ports?

btw, if i was looking to change the powersupply would that be possible to do, or will you have to change the motherboard also?
i have a sony vaio computer, but im upgrading a few of its parts gradually and pretty much everything else except the monitor

some BIOS let you turn off unused hardware, like PCI slots that have nothing in them. Probably doesnt do you any good for saving power.

Changing a PSU wouldn't require doing anything to the motherboard unless you had certain OEM systems mostly from Dell. Theses are mostly pretty old at this point and none would be worth upgradign at this point.
