Laptop Making odd noise.

The laptop in my sig is making a semi-loud, very very high pitched whining noise,

It sounds like it coming from my HD area, when i run a HD vector check everything comes out fine.

Im not sure though. Any thoughts.?

Edit: when i flip it upside down it doesnt make the high ptiched whine anymore

its possible that the fan on the unit is causing the problem as the fan has some play it may have drop and is rubbing on the casing of the fan unit.
i've also heard hdd's making a high pitched noise also; you may want to perform a full disk check on the unit as a sector scan isnt very comprehensive

yup, hard drives also make a high pitched whine. Is it your dell? Is that under warranty? If it is contact them via the online chat (easier talking english when you can read it) and ask them to replace the hard drive. If its not then like lee said, run a disk check or if your feeling brave and its on the laptop take the cover off thats over the hard drive and listen to it to see if its coming from the hard drive or not.
