Laptop Not Recognizing HDD

Hi All,

I've got a Compaq Presario CQ61 that is not recognizing its hard drive. I'm able to access all files with an external dock so I don't believe it is a HDD issue. The drive isn't even being recognized in the BIOS.

Any advice?

Compaq's are garbage. The SATA port probably went bad. Only way to know is to try another HDD.

Another HDD yields the same response from the PC...

Just give it a try. Go to the BIOS setup, & change the disk controller setting from AHCI to IDE.

Doesn't matter if the BIOS doesn't see the drive.
