mp4 decoder?

hi all. im trying to convert mp4 to avi, and trying to play mp4's in general on my pc and when i try to convert them, it says i need a mp4 decoder. can someone help me on which one will work and where to find it?? Any help would be really appreciated. thank you...

Do you need to convert from mp4 to avi, or is just a way for you to view the mp4's?

Cuz if its just an issue of playing them, download VLC Player. It plays damn near anything.

If you don't care about having menus, you can use DVD Flick. It will convert the mp4 to a DVD without having to change the mp4 to avi.
